Hi I’m Sören !

I’m a lutruwita (Tasmania)–based photographer with a passion for birds, wildlife, and nature photography.

Inspired by the textures and compositions found all around me, I try to capture the art within nature. I often experiment with narrow apertures and longer shutter speeds to create unique images of birds, mammals, and all other forms of life.

Oversimplified, of course, yet quite accurate. But every once in a while, even these energetic little plovers need a snooze too or, in this case, slow down just a second to be curious and explore. One day I lay in the wet sand, just a short walk from our house, waiting for the tide to bring the birds toward me rather than creeping up on them and risking flushing or stressing them. First came the birds, then the ice-cold water (it was winter). I couldn’t move yet, or I’d risk flushing the birds that had started feeding very close around my feet. Some, luckily, right in front of my lens too. I was getting colder and colder and started shivering quite a bit. The water was almost high enough to push the birds further along, away from me. All of a sudden, one little plover changed its course and came darting straight toward me. No more shivers, no more cold, no more wet! I forgot about all the discomfort, all the everyday stress and anxieties. Just a little plover and me. We shared a moment. I snapped a couple of pictures and slowly lifted my eyes above the viewfinder. A quick but intense stare into each others souls followed by a little “twitwit twitwit,” and then we both parted ways. I got up with all my gear and walked back out to some dry sand. Only then did I realize how warm that little interaction had made me feel.
